Steering Column Repair: steering column replacement, sound insulation, spring assembly

Question
We have a 1989 firebird that has a worn out iginition tumbler gear and spring assembly that slips and does not permit the car to start.

We have fixed it before but now is probably time to replace the column.  How hard is it to replace the steering column?

Answer
Hello Barry,
The column is not that hard to replace. Start from under the hood and work your way to the inside. The hardest part is moving all the carpeting and sound insulation away from the mount at the floor to get at the 4 or 5 screws holding the boot mount to the floor. Other than that is pretty straight-forward.
Have a great day!
