Steering Column Repair: rebuilding a steering gear, size blazer, hole sizes

i own a 1980 full size blazer and the steering box needs a rebuild.  inorder to save some cash i am going to do it myself, but the problem is there are two rebuild kits, the first design and second design.  how do i know which one mine is?  none of the parts stores could answer my question...can you help?

Hello Mike,
Your best bet is to disassemble the unit so you can identify the parts you will need. Pay particular attention to shaft and hole sizes as well as thicknesses. I do not have any pictures showing the differences so there may be subtle differences in the design of shaft and/or bearing clearances.
