Steering Column Repair: 1994 gmc safari idling problem, gmc safari, bolts

Question
I have been trying to fix this problem for some time now.  The van when idling will rev up and down and then die.  I read there is an ignition switch, but can't seem to find it.  I have replaced several other parts, could this switch be the problem? If so, where is it my manuals do not show it.

Answer
Hello John,
I'm not sure I understand your problem. An ignition switch will not affect idle speed as you describe. The ignition switch will power the ignition "system" (several components)and is either off, start, or on. The engine idle is controlled by the sensors and switches on the engine. These also make up part of the ignition "system".

The ignition switch is on the top of the column. You will have to remove the lower dash covers to remove the column mounting bolts.

Sorry I couldn't be of any more help.
Have a great day!
