Subaru Repair: 93 Impreza fuel pump, iridium sparkplugs, subaru impreza

Question
Here we go.

93 subaru impreza L AWD
1.8 L
5 speed
MPFI (im pretty sure)

Took my car to class on Friday, and came home just fine.  Tried to start it a few hours later, but it wouldnt.  It turns over, it really wants to start but will not.

I have owned this car for...  bout a year and a half.  Never have had this problem before, and I lived in a really cold town for a while with 8 feet of snow. - but not any more.

So I have new ign iridium sparkplugs, and wires. New fuel filter.  Checked the coil pack, and its fine.  I am getting spark.  Checked the timing belt, its lined up fine.  Finally checked the fuel, and nothing is getting past the fuel filter.  So, I had a friend hit my gas tank with a rock, thinking maybe something had frozen up - kinda like a joke of last resorts.  And it starts.  YAY. The next morning it starts fine, then a few hours later it wont start again.  Same problem.

My guess is that it is the fuel pump, but before I get into doing all of that, I would like to know if it sounds good to you.

I am a girl who works on cars, and absolutely hate going to shops because they think I dont know what I am doing, and usually tell me something is wrong with my car that it doesnt even have.

So, Does it sound like it is the fuel pump, or something else?  And how do I fix it?

Thank you for your help

Michelle

Answer
Michelle,

A fuel pump is one of many possibilities, the right way to go about this is to test for fuel pressure if it doesn't have fuel pressure than test for power and ground at the fuel pump.

If you have good signals to the pump and still have no fuel pressure than yes replace the pump.
