Subaru Repair: Same as Vibration at Idle under Load, cv axles, engine vibration

Question
I also have a 2002 Subaru Outback, 4 cly with engine vibration. I had the right front CV axle replaced & the engine vibration began. I have changed the plugs & wires as recommended by the mechanic but did it did not help.  Unlike the previous post where the transmission was replaced, I have had no major repairs.  I have owned the vehicle since it was new.  I'm beginning to think that this is a major problem or issue with Subaru that the manufacturer is trying to keep quiet.  I have been reading posts elsewhere that indicate engine vibration problems with their Subaru cars. Since you are recommending that the dealers do not know what they are doing, who then can figure out this problem?

Answer
Hi Ken,

The vibration at idle is due to you letting a shop put cheap Chinese made CV axles in the front.  YES it causes a vibration on the 2000 to 2004 Outback!!!  The Chinese made Axles have the incorrect type inner (DOJ) type joints and  the right side inner joint has to much play and it causes a vibration at idle buy a NEW SUBARU axle from the Dealer, not a Subaru Reman axle, not an after market axle and the problem will be resolved.  I will add that you will expect to pay almost $400.00 just for the part

It would have been better to reboot your existing axle than go with a Chinese made axle.  Keep this in mind for the left side axle , that when the boots crack its time to replace the boots, if the boots tear, and the joints become damaged it can really cause a lot of headaches and money.

There is no Aftermarket CV axle that is any where close to the same quality as the O.E. Axle from Subaru, and the Subaru Reman axles leave a lot to be desired in my opinion.

You can read more about it here.  http://allwheeldriveauto.com/seattle-subaru-cv-boots-and-axle-problems-explained...

Hope that helps
