Subaru Repair: 02 forester locked up, rear axel, abs sensor

Question
Hi--I recently had the rear axel off my 02 forester (to repair rear wheel bearing).  Couldn't get the abs sensor off so cut it (and spliced it back after the repair).  Put everything back, bled brakes, tried to start the car and discover the ignition is locked on lock and the shifter is stuck in park.  Do you know how I could possibly have done that? and how to fix it?  Thanks,

Jim V.

Answer
Jim,

First of all why didn't you just unplug the abs sensor?  It connects further up via a two pin connector.

You should never cut and splice a speed sensor, crank, or cam sensor.  The wires are shielded and you have just changed that.

Try wiggling the steering wheel back and forwards while trying to turn the key.
