Subaru Repair: 2002 Outback Power Seat, repair strategies, power seat

Question
The power seat is only moving forward, but will not move backward.  All other directions work fine.  How would I check to see if it's the switch and is there any common repair strategies if I have to pull the seat out?

I talked to the dealership and they said if it's the motor, the whole rail system has to be replaced.  Is this true?  Any idea on cost and time if the rail system has to be replaced at the dealership.

Thanks!

Answer
I hate to say it, but I have no experience with Subaru power seats. But, if it were a gm, the whole seat track would need to be replaced. Actually, on a gm, thats the only way to get the part. The last one we did on a gm, we bought the new seat track, and only used the parts we needed - and saved the old parts. If you can find a used seat track, that might be a way to go.
