Towing Issues: repo pronlems, tow truck driver, tow driver

Question
Toledo,OH ... my car was repossessed from Toledo,Ohio (apartment parking lot)to a tow lot in Millbury,OH ... the tow truck driver was VERY aware that I had no way of getting there unless I walked (about 17-18 miles away from the location it was towed from) he also left Lucas County and entered Wood County. I was told by other people that the tow driver cannot towed outside the TARTA Bus Lines or risk a $2500 dollar fine.Is this true ?

The parent company of this business is located in Cleveland,OH.

Answer
Well there is a huge difference in laws between "towing for illegal parking" and "towing due to failure to pay (REPO)" of a vehicle.

And I really hate to say it, but Ohio also has some very strange rules and there is a huge issue with finding them online for me to provide answers.

But in most cases, a tow for illegal parking is more of a "penalty tow" and as such many cities and states have rules that tend to protect the vehicle owner in ways that take away the rights of the property owner.
For example in some places, if you had a vehicle parked in your driveway at your house it would have to sit for 1 hour to 1 day before it could be removed. That is taking away property rights.

Others tend to allow for issues like you say, distance to be towed, providing rides or help in getting there. But that is all over the country and differs tremendously.

But it does sound like the whole tow was due to non or late payments and the finance company has the rights to take and pick up the vehicle whether it is convenient for you or others. They use who they can. I have seen companies here in Alabama with tow a repo up to 100 miles back to their shops and yards.

Sorry, but I do not see any issue or case which would help you.
