Towing Issues: Tow Laws, california dmv, gov pubs

Question
Is it a CA state law for a tow sign to be listed on or near a parking space that has restrcited parking?  For example, there is a tow away zone sign in front of an apartment complex, but not near any of the actual parking spaces within the complex?

Answer
yes there are sign laws with require signs to be posted.
The most common and useful section of the California DMV vehicle code is VC 22658  (link below)

Now in regards to signs in front of each space or in actual parking areas, that is not really required nor practical..

Reason I say that is lets look at just a few of the issues regarding signs...

Lets say that the parking area is in front of a building of 8 units with 8 parking spaces.
Now if you had a sign up in front of each space saying that its reserved for tenants, then there would be 8 signs on posts. Now being California and having all the rules and stuff, then add in the Spanish language signs. But in interest of being fair, do not forget the Chinese, Vietnamese, and other needed signs to help other drivers understand the signs.
BUT REMEMBER that driving is a privilege not a right, and as such the basic requirements that in order to get a drivers license, you have to read, write and speak enough English to understand directions, both written and verbal.

Hope this helps a bit.
