Towing Issues: Damage to Impounded Vehicle, towing company, troy michigan

A friend of mine in Troy, Michigan had a vehicle towed and impounded, apparently according to a police determination that it was abandoned.  When the car was returned it had been damaged according to my friend.
Is there any way to recover from a towing company for damaging the vehicle while it is being towed or stored?

Most tow companies have procedures for damage claims. Hopefully the damage was brought to the attention of the tow manager(photographed and documented)before the vehicle left the premises which helps support and resolve the situation quickly as possible.
