Towing Issues: Rack and pinion damaged, tow company, flatbed truck

Question
I have a 2002 Ford Explorer 2WD. I recently lost my only set of keys and had to get it towed to the dealership for a new one (b/c of the computer chip in the key). I called AAA and they sent one of the companies they are contracted with to come out and get it while I was at work. When I picked the car up from the dealer, I noticed the steering wheel would shake while turning right, and the car was pulling hard to the right-- turns out my rack and pinion is damaged. The manager of the company came and looked at it and says they are only allowed to hook to the frame, and there is no way they could be responsible for the damage. My wife saw the driver hook up and said that he started pulling it onto the flatbed truck, then stopped and brought it back down and hook to something else. Of course the driver says that never happened, but I tend to believe my wife. The tow company also tried to convince me that the dealership had damaged it while they had it, but all they did is reprogram the computer, and park it. Is there anything I can do?

Answer
My suggestion is contacting AAA about the situation. Since this was a motorclub call, AAA has a good resolution program for damage claims. AAA may suggest towing the vehicle to one of their approved repair faculties for further inspection. If the repair shop determines the vehicle was recently damaged by improper towing, AAA will cover the repair. Personally, I would not drive the vehicle until the repairs made. If any of the steering components were hooked accidently they could break under the stress of driving.
