Towing Issues: 30 day Hold, dmv web, california dmv

Question
I Had A 30 day hold On My Streetbike For wreckless Endangerment In California. I was arrested and in Jail for 3 weeks so i had no chance of trying to get my bike back.So I went to the tow auction with a friend to bid on My bike and the Owner of the Towing Company outbid me. My bike Wasnt even there to look at before the bidding and we had to bring the local PD to get them to start the Bidding. Since the outbid me for the bike the Bike was lost... The sent me a bill in the mail saying i still owe them $1700 for the fees.. the intitial fees were $3200 if i wanted to get it out before the auction... They sold the bike for $1500 and deducted it off the 3200.. Am I still liable to pay 1700 even thou they sold my bike...It doesnt Make sense they sold the bike and still charging me and this is 3 months later after they auctioned it... they are a hole in a wall tow yard that has been violated in the past.

Answer
yes, you as the owner of the vehicle are responsible for any and all towing fees over and above the amount which is owed for towing and storage of the vehicle, even if the tow company bought the vehicle at the auction.

California DMV web site has a lot of information on towing laws and you can check it out online  and search the sections on 30 day holds on vehicles, Lien sales, vehicle values of sale, surplus funds from lien sales, negative balances on lien sales and the such. (there are to many sections for me to start linking them and you will have answers to questions which I would be guessing at)
