Towing Issues: wheel lift strap down, adjustable bracket, square tubing

Question
i have a stinger with tube style wheel lift. there is only one hole in the middle for hook on ratchet to fit into. my straps come lose some times.what is the proper way to install straps

Answer
I guess you are talking about square tubing correct? Most of these have straps with a metal ring attached on the end. If this is the case I usually make a loop out of the strap and place it over the tire at about a 10/2 or 11/3 position. If the ratchet tightens correctly you should still have a short portion of the strap that goes at a 90 degree angle to the ratchet. The only time you may have a problem is with smaller tires. Usually, if the bracket is adjustable, sliding it further forward and getting the tire higher in the bracket will help. If it is not an adjustable bracket (as with most self loading wheel lifts) you cannot do this.
