Towing Issues: Vehicle Towed in an Assigned Apartment Carport, apartment management, inoperable vehicles

Question
A vehicle that I have been keeping for my nephew that has left for the Air Force has been towed in my assigned carport where I live. The apartment management placed a notice on the car 4 days prior to the towing date. When the notice was placed, the car was parked in an unnassigned, uncovered parking. The notice said that the car has not been moved or driven and it is unoperatable, the car runs but the tags expired last year. Since I don't have the documents to get registered and pay out of my pocket to get it street legal,I have moved it to my carport to avoid towing.

I came home to find the car gone, since it's parked under my carport and the carport is included in my monthly rent to the complex. Is this the same as going in to my apartment and taking something out of it?

Any suggestions?

Best Regards
D.

Answer
Unless it is an attached garage it is usually not considered part of the residence. The management did follow proper procedures as for placing a notice on the vehicle. Most complexes have rules and regulations about disabled, abandoned or inoperable vehicles. Did you contact them after they placed the notice or just move the car?
