Towing Issues: Towing Setup for a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis, mercury grand marquis, air shocks

Question
I have a 3200lb boat + tandum trailer with brakes (maybe 1,000lbs) that I would like to tow with a 2000 Grand Marquis.  I'm not looking for long distances on a regular basis but mile to and from boat ramp.  On occasion 1 or 2 times a year, I might pull 100 miles. What kind of addition equipment do I need.  I'm been looking at a class 3 hitch and air shocks to give a little extra support.    Do you see any issues having enough traction and power to pull up the ramp.

Answer
In my opinion, I would NOT recommend towing that much weight behind your vehicle. You could try beefing up the suspension but can the rear axle, transmission, engine, brakes, etc. accommodate the additional weight safely? I did check with Uhaul and they have a hitch and claim your vehicle can handle the stated weight but as I said before I wouldn't do it and is my opinion. Just remember they are in the business to SELL. I am more concerned with your safety and longevity of the vehicle.
