Towing Issues: charges, mileage charge, mileage charges

Question
QUESTION: Rich: what is the standard fee for tow and recovery
mileage charges?
NYS.
I've read  the motor vehicle towing regulations. Unfort. they don't mention any thing a fee's.

Thank you, Debi

ANSWER: Debbie, this is such a loaded question that it defies answer....

Unless there is a "contract" between the tow company and either the state patrol, County Sheriff, or other local government which spells out charges then it is generally a "Free Market price system" used...

The tow company sets its rates and that is what they charge for services.  Each tow company would have different costs of doing business and operational costs..

Sorry that I can not help more, but I also feel that their is more to this question than is presented to me.

QUESTION: Rich: My son is starting a business he has contacted local
police and sheriffs dept.
They just place your business on a call list as long as you have all the proper paper work. We are just wondering what we would start with a mileage charge?
You can't even call another tow company  they won't even talk with you. Thanks again. Debi

Answer
Well that is all different as each company does what it thinks is "fair market value" for it's prices.

Now I wish that I could tell you what to charge, but it would be next to impossible for me down here in Alabama to tell you your costs in New York..

I know that the Empire State Towing & Recovery Association is having its annual trade show in Lake George and it might be worth going up and checking out things.. You might get some pointers there.

Good luck
