Towing Issues: Toad, car dolly, drive wheels

Question
I want to purchase a 2004 Toyota Tacoma w/ the 5 spd manual transmission to tow behind my motorhome.  Will I need to modify the drive train or is it towable, 4-down.
Thanks

Answer
Either pull the driveshafts or get a car trailer. If it's only a 2wd truck a car dolly would work if towed backwards, rear wheels are in the dolly. Another option if you really want to flat tow is checking out Remco. Here is the link http://www.remcotowing.com/

Sorry you disagree with my suggestion on disconnecting the driveshaft and my reasoning is based on experience. One source many towers use is www.towspec.com which is a compilation of information obtained from OEM manufactures for correct towing procedures. A general rule of thumb that we teach all towers is that a vehicle should never be towed on their drive wheels to prevent any possible damage to the drive train. Some vehicles can be towed on their drive wheels and others can't! For the vehicles that can be towed on their drive wheels they are always limited to speed and distance. I usually don't provide towspec information as a account is needed to properly access the information. Here is a link for the vehicle mentioned http://www.towspec.com/vehent/vehview.aspx?ID=2624  If you decide not to take any precautious to protect the drive train, let me know how it works out.
