Nissan Repair: 1999 Nissan Quest transmission, good mileage, nissan quest

QUESTION: I was shifting from drive to park and heard a snap then bang.  Then I could put in in gear but nothing would happen.  It holds in park and the tires do not rotate when I rev the engine the speedometor does not move.  Is there a chain or a belt that could have broken that would be easy to get to or is the tranny shot.  Thanks

Looks like the transmission went. It will need an overhaul.

QUESTION: It has about 180K on it.  Thanks for the answer, I was afraid of that.  I guess that I will start to price what a replacement will be, any advice?

Hi Julie -

Normally a transmission overhaul is about $1500. Looks like you got some good mileage out of this transmission!

I would go ahead and do the overhaul, assuming the vehicle is running fine otherwise. There is an additive called AT205 that is excellent in transmissions for longer life. Here is Hawaii, Carquest usually has it.
