Tips on Buying Cars: Purchasing a car in Florida, insurance companies in florida, mail check

Question
QUESTION: As an Australian retiree spending six continuous months a year in Florida is it possible for me to purchase, register and get insurance for a car there.  I hold a current Australian and International Driver's licence and will be renting while in Florida.  Thank you for your assistance

ANSWER: Hi Mate,

There will not be a problem it's just a matter of knowing the steps, for starters check this link on my website http://www.usedcartips.org/DMV.html and click on Florida if you get confused I will be here to help you along.

It will be a good idea to bring a history print out from your current insurance provider to get a lower rate.

I am retired myself live near Niagara Falls on the Canadian side of the fence,  the wife and I have a winter home in FL " Englewood " where we reside 4 - 5 months during the winter, your location ?

If you reply to this mail check the " make private " so the whole world wont know where there is an aussie from down under on the loose,,,lol

My expertise is buying and selling, check out my website for some pointers that will help you along when ready for purchase.

QUESTION: Ray, thanks for the reply.  I have already been on that link myself.  Have one more question - when filling out the form for your certificate of title, under the section "Florida Drivers Licence Number" - will they accept an Australian Drivers Licence Number?  Also can you drive in Florida for 6 months on my current licence?  Will the insurance companies in Florida accept an Oz licence?  Any info is much appreciated.  By the way I lived in Canada for 18 years, Toronto in the 70's and Vancouver in 80's and I love the Niagara area.
Regards, Bill

Answer
Let me answer the Q this way, I have no desire to study or read all the fine print on FL - DMV forms, but will tell you " there is no problem " I have known several that arrive from europe with an international licence and purchased a car in the US,,, some only crossed the country for a few months, purchased a car and sold when leaving the US..

The worse drivers on earth are Chinese and they can get car Insurance during a stay in US,,, so I don't see a problem with an Oz licence. And yes you can drive with no problem for 6 months with your international licence. This thred is maxed out, email me at paulseray@yahoo.com with further Q if needed

I mentioned Niagara Falls as a landmark because most people would not know where Oakville is located, am sure you do,,lol
