Towing Issues: Do I need a DOT #, dot number, fmcsa

Hello, I am opening a towing company in NY state. I do not plan on running out of state. I am buying a rollback that has under 26000 gvw towing capacity. I can not find anywhere that says I do or do not need a DOT registration. Can you help ? Thank you

If you are for hire regardless of interstate or intrastate you need a DOT number. It's easy and can be done online. Here is the link for registration
