Towing Issues: Painted fire lanes, tow truck driver, new years day

Question
I always thought that with a no parking fire lane sighn the curb had to  be painted has well. See for the past 6 months I have parked infront of my town home and after my car was towed new years day I noticed a no parking fire zone sighn 3 town homes up. I had not noticed it before. The towing company did not put a warrning sticker on the car or a note on the car that they had towed it. I thought somw one stolled it and was about to call the police. Can they tow the car if the curb is not red and are they supposed to leave a note at the door?

Answer
It is usually a painted curb or posted sign. Some cities and state and provide a double redonce (misspelled? I'm a tow truck driver not a English major) with the painted curbs and posted signs. In most cases violating a fire lane will provide immediate towing without any other notice given. State laws with regards to fire lanes are safety comes first.
