Towing Issues: Towing a truck and trailer, long distances, road drivers

My question is what are the rules and regulations for a heavy recovery tow truck hauling a whole semi truck w/ trailer unit? Are there any distance restrictions?

Answer
Heavy operators have to follow the same hours of service while transporting as the over the road drivers. There are some exceptions on accident recoveries with weight, over all length and hours of service but VERY limited on distance, usually back to the tow lot, nearest exit or closest repair shop from the disablement. Most times when a heavy transports the whole combination there are usually a lot of permits and hassles. For safety and liability most heavies will not transport the entire combination any long distances
