Towing Issues: Towing Procedures, 4wd vehicles, how to have a successful business

Question
I am looking into going into towing business and and am in the process of acquiring a used FB TT, please advise me on the procedures for towing: 4wd vehicles: RWD vehicles: FWD vehicles and AWD vehicles,. Also please advise when and if I can tow a vehicle without keys, what I need to do. I am eager to learn as much as I can before I screw up.

When loading vehicle onto a FB, does it have to be on neutral or park, or even when unlocked, no keys, what happens.
And also whats the difference between  4 wheel and  a 2 wheel drive vehicle, and how do I tell if its 4wd or 2wd?

Thanks in advance.

Answer
Eric, I would love to provide  you with all this information but it would be a huge answer consisting of about 300 pages or more of information...

But if you are serious about going into the towing business, I would hope you do lots of research and be very careful doing the job. It may look easy and like you make lots of money but it is not that way...

You also will or could have several different city or state regulations on towing businesses including rules and regulations which even regulate the prices you can charge for services you provide.

Like I said lots of issues here to check into.

There are several places for information online, and some places to buy training programs, books and stuff... Check out these places right now and see what is available

www.wreckmaster.com   (for training materials)

www.awdirect.com      (for equipment, supplies and training materials)

www.towspec.com       (for online towing instructions for vehicles)

And then there are several towing forums online which you can join and read a lot of information about towing procedures and how to have a successful business..

www.tow411.net

www.towtalk.net

www.priceperpound.info

(mainly about heavy duty towing, but they have lots of info and contacts for motor clubs

I hope that this helps if not feel free to contact me for more information.  But good luck
