Towing Issues: towing, handicap spot, visitors spot

Question
My car was towed last night so I went to the towing company to find out why, since I was parked in a visitors spot at an apartment company.  They told me that it was because my car did not have the registration sticker on my tag up to date.  I did not know that i could get towed for that. My car is properly insured and I showed them proof of that, but they say there is nothing they can do. If anyone were to run my license tag number they would see that I'm properly insured. I don't understand why it was necessary to tow me, and is there really nothing I can do?

Answer
I've been fighting for this same type thing: That should be a police matter. You should have been fined by law enforcement, IF THEY found your tag was not legal. Towing companies should not and are not allowed to act like police or do the jobs of policemen. Just like towing from a handicap spot. Had you vehicle not been legal, you should have been written tickets & paid fines. Fines that some towns use to improve there community, not paid to a tow-a-way company. Check with the 'police parking meters' unit, the law follows under most of their rules. Hope this is helpful.
Good Luck,
