QuestionCan I flat tow a 98 Ford F150 4x4 auto trans, on the go 4 wheel drive shift (electric shift)? Been told yes and no from dealers and others, need to know for sure.
AnswerWell this is not my real area of expertise, but I want to ask something about this...
People flat tow vehicles all the time including vehicles with automatic transmissions (yes I know that there are transmission disconnects and such) but why is it they can tow them with the drive wheels down and turning, but yet we can not tow them with tow trucks with the drive wheels down, without damaging the transmission..
They have recommendations for tow trucks towing vehicles which include speeds and distances towed, but when its behind an RV its ok...
That is why I really have no answers here at all on this kind of subject. Yes it might be able to be done, but I got no idea how to do it without possible damage...
PS, any 4x4 we tow commercially gets all the wheels off the ground to cover our tail !!!
