Towing Issues: Towing and Construction, legal space, construction zones

Question
(dallas, tx) I had my car towed today from near a construction site.  I arrived @7am and parked on the side of the street outside an area of cones but within a legal parking area.  Now I come out to find my car gone and the signs/sidewalk of the street where my car was parked replaced by bulldozers as the construction site had swelled to encompass where i had parked.  The builder claims the police impounded it (still on hold to validate).  Is there any way that i won't have to pay for parking in a legal spot?  I don't have any tickets pending or other issues so they should have given a ticket instead of a tow (if the spot wasn't legal).

Answer
I really doubt that you will get out of paying for the tow...
Yes you can be parked in a legal space, but construction zones do at times operate in a "Gray area" regarding signs and towing of vehicles.

I am sure that the police department had it towed, and they might of issues a ticket in order to validate the reason for the tow...

By just issuing a ticket and leaving the vehicle does not solve the problems of access for construction equipment or supplies, which at times requires the size of the area to be expanded...

Sounds like you got caught up in one of those issues in the gray area.
