Towing Issues: Raising a fifth wheel trailers suspension, fifth wheel trailers, fifth wheel trailer

Question
Don,
I have a 28' fifth wheel trailer that I was towing behind an older dodge diesel. My issue is that I've since bought a newer diesel that sits almost 6" taller on the bed height, my trailer will be running "downhill" by that much more. I am a welder and have the ability to extend the trailer frame height by 6" by basically adding a 6" X 2" tubing to the underside of the existing frame of the trailer and bracing accordingly and reinstalling of the suspension components as required. Does this affect the towing of the trailer dramatically or the center of gravity too much, or does this seem like a solution to my problem. I've looked at flipping the axle as an option, but it doesn't give me the height I'm looking for.

Answer
Sure seems like a lot of trouble to go through, and it will make the trailer a bit more top heavy and tippy.  I wouldn't think it would make a huge difference though unless the loads you haul are to the top and heavy at the top.

Still, can't you make an adjustment to the fifth wheel at the A-frame?  Seems that shortening that by 6" would be a LOT less trouble.  I am not an expert at 5th wheel setups, but there has to be some way to change or adjust that part of the trailer.
