Towing Issues: dolly towing dakota 4x4 2007, 4wd auto, rear wheel drive

Question
QUESTION: Hi Richard:  Dodge says I can tow this truck with all 4 down.  Can I tow with front end on a dolly (transfer case in neutral) too? please give you your opinion

ANSWER: Funny thing here, is that if Dodge says you can tow it with all wheels down, then why do they tell us if we tow it, we have to flatbed it or pull drivelines???

Personally, I would tow it on the dolly backwards and have the truck in 2H (which is rear wheel drive) and if it has locking hubs then make sure its in free... That is what I would suggest....
Transfer cases are great, but they are usually after the transmission and as such you are still turning parts into the transmission where problems can happen.

QUESTION: Thanks, the manual shows if you have the 4wd auto with the netural switch you can tow 4 wheels down.  If you have the AWD option you cannot tow 4 wheels down.  As far as dolly towing they said to me that the transfer case would not be level and the fluids would not coat the gears while the drive shafts turn the TC and not the Tranny for you would be in Neutral (for transfer case).

Answer
That is one of the reasons it is so hard to answer questions about flat towing vehicles...
But my bottom line thoughts are that anything that is turning into any transmission related part (transfer cases included) then there is a greater chance of damage happening...
