Towing Issues: ranger towing a camper, pop up camper, ford model

Question
Hi Richard, I am hoping to pull a 1700# pop up camper behind my 1999 Ford Ranger (standard transmission, 2.5L, 4 cylinder engine).  I don't know how to find out the towing weight limit for this truck.  Can you please tell me what it is and if I can safely pull this camper w/my truck? Thank you, H

Answer
Well here is a web page with some information for you about the towing capacity..

Things to consider also are what kinds of road conditions are you going to be doing the towing in also..

its way different when you are talking about going up and down hills in Florida than hills in Colorado...

I know there are not a lot of answers here but the question can have so many different answers it's hard to provide an honest and correct answer..

Traffic conditions, your brakes on the truck are also a concern. Heck even elevation is a factor as the higher up you are the harder the engine has to work for air to run.. Add a trailer behind it and its already working harder..
The standard transmission means that a transmission cooler is not required..

According to the numbers the trailer is over the standard tow rating by 100 pounds, but remember when you go camping even with a trailer, people tend to take everything including the kitchen sink with them.. And that adds weight.
