Towing Issues: towing question, vehicle lien, courtyard hotel

Question
I picked up a shuttle from the courtyard hotel to LAX. I left my car in the hotel parking lot which I have done many times before. When I arrived back home my car had been towed. I went into the hotel and they said that they stopped letting people leave their car in the parking lot in Feb. No one from the shuttle service told me this and there were now signs stating this. I arrive back home on the following Sat. I left on the previous Sunday. My car was towed Sunday night at 6:00pm. I tried to get my car back on Saturday and they told me the place is closed. I tried again on Sunday and the same answer. When I went to retrieve by car Monday morning my bill was $565.00. They charged me 8 days of storage even though the car was not picked up until 6:00 on Sunday and I picked it up at 0800 Monday morning. $30.00 a day for Storage $70.00 for the lein and the rest was towing. Do I have a leg to stand on.  Thanks Gwyn

Answer
Well,  as much as I hate to say it but it sounds like you are stuck with this..

A lot of hotels used to provide parking for people who stayed at the motel before trips.. But as always there are people who abused it...  It does not take long to have a parking lot full of cars and no tenants ..

And as such they were forced to quit the practice and start towing vehicles.  Now the shuttle service driver should not have to tell people about the changes as they are doing what they are supposed to do. Transport customers from the hotel to the airport terminal..

As to the signs, well if they meet the rules and regulations regarding the wording and size then they covered that problem.

As to the fees charges, yeah that sounds right, as most of the storage charges are set up and billed on calendar days..
Closed, well the office most likely was closed but for a fee called " gate fee  or after hours release fee" its available for more money.. Yeah its sometimes cheaper to wait till business days to get the vehicle.
Lien fee, is something that according to the law is charged after a while to notify the owner and lien holders, that the vehicle was towed..

Now if you really feel that you were cheated or ripped off by parking in a lot without paying for the privilege then you can always contest it and go the small claims court route.

Hope this helped..
