Towing Issues: Towing standard 4x4 jeep, straight forward method, 4x4 jeep

Why does Chilton say to put the 4x in neutral and the transmision in any forward gear? This is on a dolly. Why wouldnt I put both in neutral? Thanks, Dan

Well, I have to say one thing about towing jeeps... They never have a straight forward method or answer of how to tow them...

Dealing with then on a COMMERCIAL towing basis, we always tow them with all the wheels off the ground unless there are front locking hubs on them..

Now as to flat towing them behind RV's there are different rules for them...  I am not familiar with all the different ways that can be done with transmission lock out devices or what ever...  

Check with some local jeep shops and RV places and see if that helps...  Remember that books and manuals are all different and as such there is a big trend to CYA with them..
