Towing Issues: Towing damage (`97 Saab 900se), tow company, towing company

Question
I am from CT and my car was towed for taxes owed. After picking up my car I noticed an extreme oil leak from my oil pan. I immediately brought my car to the shop and my mechanic said based on the laceration that it seemed to have been caused by the way my car was towed. I checked Towspec.com and the common mistake listed when towing a Saab is damage to the oil pan because of where it is located.  I saw the way the tow company brought my car to the front when I was picking it up and i know now that it wasn't towed the recommended way(at least while i was there). The owner of the towing company hasn't been responsive to my concerns. What should I do? And what should I watch out for? I never had issues with my oil pan previous to the tow and I understand that if I had paid my taxes on time it wouldn't be an issue...but does that give the tow company free range to be reckless? What if my car had been "accidently" set on fire in their possession, do they carry no liability?

Answer
Sorry to hear about the towing damage which happened..

Now when the tow company does a tow for any reason, and damage happens they are responsible for it.  Yeah that's a ethical issue also..

Now I do have to say in defense of all towing services, the designers of cars and trucks have made it harder and harder to do the job we are required to do without causing damages or having to have about a zillion different systems to do the job..

I would contact the towing company about the damages, and discuss it again calmly.. Yes the towspec.com site is good for getting information.

But remember one thing to remember also is that its a GENERAL answer on how the manufacturer suggests it done.  You can change that all by changing tires or doing any other kind of modifications to the vehicle.
