Towing Issues: NJ Tow yard released vehicle, tow yard, taking possession

Question
I needed to take possession of a vehicle for a lawsuit. Since the vehicle was registered to my husband's business and I was not a corporate member, I needed to go to the surrogates office in order to have the title put under my name. The tow yard insisted I give them the title to prove that I was serious about taking possession and that I wasn't going to leave it there. Apparently one of the employees released the vehicle to a scrap yard who then crushed the vehicle. Do you know if NJ has a law regarding vehicle titles or procedures (duty to preserve)these companies should have followed?

Answer
Yes New Jersey has rules, regulations regarding towing procedures and how to release vehicles.

Now this whole thing sounds funny to me, and I have no idea of how long it has been towed and stored till now..

This might also be a part of the answer, but a generalized answer is that it takes from 20 to 60 days before it is disposed of..

I would suggest you contact the lawyers involved in the lawsuit you mentioned.. They should have an answer here for you. I can not really comment on this as one it sounds like time has been an issue in this also...

Sorry but pending lawsuits are something I do not generally comment on here on Allexperts..
