QuestionI would like to know if a tow company can tow a truck and trailer, semi & 53 ft trailer by breaking in hot wiring and driving off taking it to the yard? No red sticker present on truck when taken. It was parked in a store center, strip mall for 20 mins. Afew signs were posted approx 4"x5". Must they tow with a vehicle? What do you know about drop charges also ? thankyou, Amy
Answerok, this is a complicated answer due to the question..
First of all, most all truck out there are fairly easy to get unlocked and there are not many different keys are needed to start the truck.
Driving to the yard ? most will not do that, since they are a tow company. But FYI, it only takes about 15 to 20 minutes to hook up a semi and get it down the road.
Now signs, it all depends on the city where it was and if there are specific signage requirements. Sadly there are lots of areas where you do not need signs in lots of locations.
And vehicles do not always have to have stickers warning of towing..
20 minutes parked that is highly unlikely, as most towing services have to respond to the call with a heavy duty tow truck... that's a personnel opinion.
If you were to catch the towing service with the vehicle hooked up but not off the property, there are drop fees usually equal to half the normal fee (kind of un regulated depending on the state or city).
Since I do not have more information I really can not give you better answers.
