Towing Issues: Towing w/ 99 jeep cherokee, ft runabout, vw rabbit

99 Jeep Cherokee, am wanting to get a boat. Expect the weight to be less than 3500# and will have surge brakes. Mostly flat towing (Dallas/Fort Worth, TX area) Have lots of towing experience. From towing with small imports to 700K miles in Semi Trucks. Including towing and launching a 16 ft runabout w/ a 1980 VW Rabbit froo 4 seasons. The Jeep is a base 4L w/automatic and no towing package. Will get a trans cooler before I would consider it. Most trips will be less than 1 hour in duration. With care and gentleness will this likely succeed. Your help is greatly appreciated.

On that truck I show a 2,000 lb maximum trailer weight.  So to be legal you would most likely have to stay under that limit (the math is done differently in different areas).  However, I personally feel the truck is more than capable of pulling the boat in a safe manner.  That won't mean diddly if you get pulled over and someone questions the weight of the boat.
