Towing Issues: 1999 Cherokee Towing, jeep cherokee sport, jeep cherokee

I have a '99 Jeep Cherokee Sport,4dr w/ the 4.0,a/t.I want to get a pop up camper to take the family on trips.Can my Jeep handle 4 people,baggage & tow a trailer?I can't seem to find any specs for my vehicle anywhere.Would a hitch be sufficient?Would I need those electronic brakes box?Any help is greatly appreciated.

I see no problem, but it all depends on the size of the trailer.  If the trailer is over 2,000 lbs, or you are towing over hilly terrain, I would invest in a transmission cooler.  If it is over 2,500 lbs, I would like it to have brakes on it (check your local regulations).  Otherwise you should be able to tow up to 5,000 lbs with the Cherokee.  I wouldn't want to simply because I think the truck would have trouble pulling anything over 3,000 lbs up a hill at the pace I like to maintain.
