Towing Issues: Towing Storage Fees, question pool, storage fees

Question
My car was towed to a lot back in June.  It has been with them ever since.  I was wondering if in the state of MA, there was a cap on how much the tow company can actually charge you for storage.  I am in a bind, beacause I am currently not working, and have a court case in which I have to prove my car is no longer registered.  I am assuming the only was I can do thata is to get the plates and turn them into the RMV.  I also would assume i can only get the plates when I have paid off the balance on the storage fees.  I am willing to offer to sign over my title and give them the car to pay off the balance.  I don't need this car anymore.  Please help me.

Answer
Andrea, sorry for the delay as I had no idea there was a question pool for non specific experts to answer.

First of all, I hope this has been resolved, but it sounds like it would not of been in your favor..

Many states tie the license plate to the person, not the vehicle and as such can control both the license and your drivers license this way to help collect taxes... I understand Massachusetts is one of them.

As to if the towing company will release the plate after being given the vehicle, it is really hard to say as if they are owed say $ 500.00 and the car is a real trash bucket worth about $ 35.00 for scrap value, they would have way more that that in expenses for just the first tow, and the needed paperwork... There is always a possibility that you could work something out with them which is equal and fair to both of you..
