Towing Issues: vehicle towing, cadillac hearse, tow dolly

Question
I need to tow a 1974 Cadillac Hearse 75 miles. A trailer would be to heavy and a tow dolly will only go to 3900 lbs. Would a tow bar be the answer? If I remove the drive shaft is there an easy way to keep the tranny fluid from leaking out?

Answer
well usually the best method is to remove the driveshaft completely from the the vehicle.  Now if you go to some transmission shops they might have a plug that fits into the output shaft area. That would stop the leaking of fluids.

A not so better method is to remove the back half of the driveshaft and then put a rag or bag over the end and tape it shut. Then it can be tied up so it does not drag or drop.  But this is somewhat dangerous.

Tow bar method is about the only method you will have as the vehicle will be to heavy for the tow dolly and most car trailers.

For such a short tow, it might be worth contacting local towing companies and seeing what you can work out.  Sometimes you can get deals when they have to return empty from long distance tows. Just an idea.

Hope this helps
