Towing Issues: Reasonable Damage Claim Period, tow truck companies, damage complaints

Question
Hi, I work closely with tow truck companies. I deal with customers complain about the damages from a tow, sometimes long time after the service was performed. What do you think is a reasonable period to file a damage complaint after receiving the service for the car owners? Some of my towers refuse to even investigate the case after 30 days, some can take longer period. I want to set a reasonable time period up front with our customers, for example "damage complaints after xx days of service will not be investigated". What's your suggestion on this? I want to be fair to the car owners and our towers.

Answer
Welcome to Experts towing issues area.

Wonder which motor club you work for.  I personally have dealt with several of them over damage claims over the years.

Now without getting into a heated discussion on this, I know that damages do happen and I also know that fraudlent claims happen also.

The 30 day window is one that I beleive would be fair,  after that rust and oxidization sets in and makes it hard to decide if its towing damage or prior existing damage.

I know that some motor clubs DEMAND that the issue is resolved within 48 hours of notification...  The towing company will need time to contact the owner and investigate and to talk to persons involved. Plus make arrangements to repair if needed.
Plus its amazing that people do not want to deal with the towing company after a claim of damage.
