Towing Issues: flat towing a jeep wrangler unlimited with automatic transmission, tow truck drivers, jeep wrangler

Question
I will be flat towing my 2005 jeep wrangler unlimited automatic transmission 1100 miles each way in the next few weeks.  I understand putting the T case into neutral, but do I put the transmission in drive?  I've heard so many different answers, I'm a little confused by all the jeep forums I read regarding lubrication etc.  Help !

Answer
sorry but I am always confussed by towing methods for jeeps. They seem to have things which are totally differant from anyone else.

We as Tow truck drivers, prefer to tow the vehicle in a manner which prevents any chance of damage to the transmission .

Now that means we would put it up on a trailer so no wheels will be on the ground and if not then it would be lifted at one end (like a tow dolly) and the driveline would be removed at the other end to eliminate the potential for transmisson damage.

I do know that for RV owners who tow Jeeps behind the vehicle they have either a transmission disconnect device to prevent damage from possibly happening, but I am not familar with them at all.

I just know what we do when we tow them for breakdowns, accidents or tow aways.

Sorry for the generalized vague answer..
