Toyota Repair: 96 camry, steering gears, cartoon character

My camry has some ecessice play while the car is going straight. I sometimes have to drive like a cartoon character. I was told by a classmate that its most likely the steering gear since all the suspension parts were ok. he said it may need to be adjusted or replaced. My question is how does this part get adjusted and if it can't, can it be rebuild? thanks

The steering gears are not adjustable on these cars and they are not rebuilt or repaired, the only choice is to buy a remanufactured or used unit but that may not even be the problem, you should have a qualified front end technician have a look at this,there may be worn suspension components.
