Toyota Repair: Toyota left wheel speed sensor, wheel speed, fuse panel

Question
Hi there,

One of our brackets under the car was rattling so we took it in and they re-welded it. Then our battery went the next day. We got a new battery and then the next day the all the instruments stopped working including the odometer, speedometer, and rev counter. Now the car will stay in first gear until the engine light comes on (automatic) until it will shift gears. When we took it back they denied that they had anything to do with the issues. They did a scan and told us there was an error from our left wheel speed sensor and they they had reset it but if it came on again there was a problem. It came on again and they told us they had to remove the entire instrument cluster and send it to another company. We would have to pay both them to remove it and the other company to see what was wrong and repair the instrument cluster.

1. If the scan said the error was the wheel speed sensor is it necessary to remove the instrument cluster to send it away?

2.Is it possible to replace the wheel speed sensor without a lot of tools and know how?

We REALLY REALLY appreciate your help!

Answer
A wheel speed sensor won't cause the instrument problem, just doesn't sound right stay away from that place.
A couple of things I need to know before I can proceed:
What bracket did they reweld?
What is the year and model of the car?
Did they tell you what the trouble codes were?
In the meantime I suggest checking the 10A "gauge" fuse which is usually located in the fuse panel on the inside lower left of the dash, if in doubt replace this fuse and see if the instruments come back.
