Toyota Repair: Toyota Surf SSRX 2006, gasoline diesel, charcoal canister

Question
QUESTION: Hi

My car is experiencing significant loss of power and fuel efficiency, especially in hotter temperatures (in the afternoon and during the summer) the car seems to struggle during acceleration and the engine gruntles (almost as though it is choking and gasping for air) and the car vibrates alot. If i floor the pedal at such time, the engines gruntles and the car accelerates in a staggered manner (still seeming to be choking) before it seems to let loose, but even once it seems to gain momentum, the acceleration is still significantly less than what it would be when it drives properly.

This performance issue seems to have had a significant impact on fuel consumption (20 to 30% decrease).

To tackle the problem, i have had the following done but it doesnt seem to have had any significant impact:

1. Change of engine oil
2. replacement of fuel filter, oil filter air filter, spark plugs.
3. removed the catalytic converter.

It also seems that when i fill the tank, the car drivers perfectly for a little while but then after driving for a short while (20% of the fuel tank) the problem comes back.

I have researched the problem a bit and it seems that the problem could be with the charcoal canister or the ignition coil but i am not sure how to address this.

The most annoying part is the loss of driving pleasure as the car struggles to drive normally on a daily basis.

Please help

ANSWER: What engine does it have? Gasoline, diesel, V-6 or 4 cylinder. I do not have any information for diesel engines but may be able to help if it's gasoline , does the check engine light stay on?

QUESTION: Its a 2.7L 4 cylinder gasoline engine. The engine light has never come on.

Answer
it sounds like you may have gotten some contaminated fuel somewhere, the reason i say this is because you say it runs normally right after putting more fuel in, I would suggest running it until the tank is almost empty then put in fresh fuel and see if the condition improves.
