Toyota Repair: clutch repair, toyota camry v6, clutch replacement

Question
I thought I had solved the problem  of my '99 Toyota Camry V6  losing power in going up a hill in 2nd gear. I was told that I needed a new clutch by three mechanics even though I had one installed three years ago. Now a 4th mechanic has said that I really have a transmission problem that is causing the clutch to wear out so fast. I asked the mechanic who I had selected to put in the new clutch if this was true and he replied that standard shift toyotas' transmissions don't go bad. I 'm wondering if this is true or is this particular mechanic just trying to sell me a clutch job and ignoring the possibility that the transmission is bad and ruining the clutch. I don't know who is right. I don't want to realize later that I wasted my money as this clutch replacement is an expensive repair. Should I take it to the dealer to be absolutely sure?

Answer
I agree with the second mechanic, transmissions don't cause clutches to go bad.It sounds like you are getting a lot of conflicting information, maybe it's time to see if the dealer can have a more definitr answer for you after looking at the car and give you a correct estimate how much it would cost.
