Toyota Repair: engine light, 2005 camry solara, obd ii connector

Question
I have a 2005 camry Solara-m The engine light came on- I have no problems up to this point except for tires/oil/brakes. I popped the hood latch yesterday and forgot to put it the way down- I also check the gas cap as well which was loose- If this doesm not work can I bring it to to regular gargae instead of a toyota garage to find the engine problem?

Answer
A loose gas cap will give you a check engine light.  The error may be gone but you have to reset the Error code.
You can do this yourself if you want to save some money.
Buy an OBD-II tool. (OnBoard Diagnostics Type 2).  Locate the Diagnostic interface, (usually below the steering column) and plug in the OBD-II connector.  Turn the car ignition to ON an follow the prompts to check for Errors and Clear errors.

This should work for you.
