Toyota Repair: 2.2si Camry 1993 vibartion, crankshaft balance, engine vibration

QUESTION: Hello Ted, I need to know why my engine vibrate at 80-100 kmph. I had the engine done up and ever since that it has this vibration. Its NOT CV OR wheel alignment as thats all fine.  Even if you standing still and rev you engine the vibrations come in around 2k-2.5k rpm. Even when driving at 90kmph the vibration is steady it goes less above 120kph but still there. Putting in neutral while driving the vibrations go away and car runs smooth. The clutch and cv and mountings are good. Its definitely the engine.  Where does this come form the vibration when engine is revving between 80 to 100 kph. The guy that did the engine said thats normal.

ANSWER: I doubt that this is normal, this engines use a balance shaft assembly to recuce vibration, the balancer assembly is located inside the oil pan and mounted to the bottom of the engine where the crankshaft balance gear engages in to the balancer, the balancer has two counterbalance shafts which must be timed correctly to the crankshaft using the timing marks, if the balancer is not timed correctly it will result in excessive engine vibration.

QUESTION: Hello Ted thanks for the answer. Can this counter balance be timed and set up easily. Or it is a major task. Also when this is setup and done will the main timing belt cover have to be opened and setup again one the counter balance has been synchronized with the crankshaft. I took an opinion from some other mechanic and he confirmed that this is the problem. I know enough about engines but this counter balance and crack timing was new to me. Live and learn they say.  Tnanks in advance for your answer.

Only the oil pan has to be removed to get to the balancer, setting it up is quite involved requiring special service tools and various shims to get the clearance correctly set as well as the timing, a factory service manual is essential, I don't know if after market manuals would cover this.
