Toyota Repair: starter r&r, starter, battery

Question
hey vince i got a 1999 toy.land cruser 4/4 v8 4.7  i think the starter is on top the intake manifold (wouldent ya know)could you shed some prof. light on what its going to take to replace it.please forward any diagrams you might have thanks...roger

Answer
The starter should be on either side of the engine block, towards the lower back so it may engage with the flywheel.  There will be a thick wire leading from the battery to the starter, since the starter draws hundreds of amps when energized.
In order to replace the starter (do NOT try to rebuild it!!) you will need gain access to the underside of the engine.  You may need to jack up the vehicle and set it on jackstands, for safety.
Ensure you have your anti-theft codes because you will be disconnecting the battery and may need them. Disconnect the battery to avoid shock.
At the starter disconnect the wires attached to the starter.
Loosen the bolts that mount the starter and remove the starter.
Take the starter with you to the auto parts store to ensure they match up.

Assembly is the reverse of removal.

Hope this helps.

Vince

btw, who told you the starter is on the intake manifold?!
