Toyota Repair: reset maintenance req light, set button, reset button

I tried instructions given for Highlander, but was not able to reset light. Do you hold down the trip set button throughout the process? Will the same instructions work for RAV4 2004?  I just had oil changed and someone reset the light for me in the past.  I can't remember who or how, but I have a strong hunch nothing is wrong except for need to reset.  Thanks very much!

What year is the Highlander, the reset procedure depends on what year? The procedure for the Rav-4 is as follows: turn the key on, make sure the display indicates "ODO", push and hold the trip reset button (do not release it through the next step) turn the key off, turn the key back on, the odometer display will show flashing lines, when the lines disapper the odometer numbers will come back, release the reset button.
