Land Rover Repair: brake switch, independent shop, park position

Question
i have a landrover 98 and the brake lights work properly, trasnmission works fine, and the lever works fine and tries to release itself but something wont let it. can you please help me figure out. thanks.

Hi Laura,

are you having trouble shifting out of the PARK position?  Brake pedal switch can cause this problem if the switch is faulty.  Could also be shifter cable cab can break due to a corroded linkage.  A local independent LR shop should be able to fix this for you IF this is the problem.  Send me an email and let me know (in the email) which city you would like to have your Disco repaired in.  I'll try to find an independent shop for you or you can go to the local dealer.
