Toyota Repair: 1998 Toyota Camery Dashboard light replacement, dashboard, light

Question
I have a 1998 Toyota Camry.  Several of the lights in the dashboard, ie the light between the odometer and the tachometer, also the light on the far left, are out.  How do you get to those lights to put in new ones?

Answer
This is a frustrating job so get psyched for it.  It takes a couple of hours
First thing you want to do is get a Haynes manual #92007 (at any auto parts store) and the replacement bulbs from the Toyota dealer (I haven't been able to find them anywhere else).  You need to get the real small bulbs with a black base.  The base turns a quarter of a turn for installation / removal.  There are several different bulbs listed for the dash lights for this model; all but one is wrong.  If they try to tell you it is not the black based bulb or that is a green covered bulb blah blah blah they are WRONG!!!
You'll want to replace all of them since you'll have the instrument panel taken apart so obtain 7 dash bulbs (not to be confused with the gear indicator lights - which are different).
You'll want to perform this task somewhere where you can safely place dashboard components you'll be removing.
***WARNING***
You will be working near the airbag so for safety sake you will need to disconnect the negative battery cable then the positive battery cable (IF you have AntiTheft system for your stereo make sure you have the correct Activation Code BEFORE disconnecting battery - or no radio for you)

1) Push drivers seat all the way back.  If power seat, do this before disconnecting battery!
2) Tilt steering wheel all the way down.
3) Remove two screws on top of instrument cluster bezel.
4) Using a taped tipped flathead screwdriver gingerly pull the lower portion of the bezel from the instrument panel.  You should feel some resistance until the clips pop free.
5) There are 4 bolts that hold the instrument panel on.  Loosen these bolts and remove the instrument panel from dash.  You may need to disconnect some electrical junctions; just keep track of what goes where.
6) The bulbs you'll need to replace will be along the top.  Grab the black base of the bulb, turn 1/4 turn counterclockwise and pull out bulb.  Inspect the bulb and the back of the instrument panel for any indications of damage, melted plastic, charring, etc.
7) Place new bulb in previous spot, turn 1/4 turn clockwise to lock.  Continue removal / replacement steps for all bulbs.
8) Reinstallation of dash is the opposite of removal.  Have fun!!!

Hope this helps.
